Tom Osborne, who moved to Frewsburg three years ago and joined
Post 556 at that time, currently serves as Second Vice-Commander. At
the end of a Post meeting in November Tom spoke about a special
experience with his eight-year-old daughter, Izzy, when they assisted
with retrieval of American flags from Maple Grove Cemetery in
October.
Working one row, as Izzy helped to pull up 35 flags, she read every
grave marker out loud. Izzy asked her dad why flags were placed on the
gravesites. Tom informed her the flags were there to remember the
deceased veterans who had served in the military with honor, dignity,
pride for their country and for people they would never know.
Afterward Tom noticed Izzy with tears in her eyes. When he asked
why, she stated she was both sad and happy; sad because they died,
but happy that they had served for her. What a teaching moment!
As the cost of everything rises so comes the squeeze on the cash flow at YOUR legion. The rising cost of printing and mailing the newsletter means we have fewer dollars to spend for improvements of the facility and fewer events. Converting to receiving the newsletter to e-mail for as many as possible is critical so please take a moment and do your part.
